He plans to direct “a big-budget adaptation of “The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft,” based on the Image Comics series.
In the article he says “It very cleverly uses H.P. Lovecraft in a fictional way, but there’s some loose biographical elements. But it certainly has the flavor and the tone of Lovecraft,” …. “The character is a very young Lovecraft.”
Oh God, let’s hope he gets this right and doesn’t bring us a comedy action hero failpic. Ron Howard has made some very shrewd and manipulative films and there’s potential here to launch Lovecraft’s work into the public eye like never before. But we all know that the average cinema goer might not be ready for a proper descent into the realm of Mythos. But they did lap up Burton’s excellent SLEEPY HOLLOW, so there’s hope for them yet.
Still I’ll definitely have to see it. Mainly out of curiosity of which stories are going to make it into the adaptation…
Empire summarise the article quite well here: http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=25915
