This week has been quite the roller coaster on the festival circuit. Three rejections for MR CLEAN, a selection but no placement for GAS! to a prestigious screenplay festival, and then COMFORT HIM, MR CLEAN and IMPRINT all did well in a festival in Slovakia, Kosice International Monthly Film Festival.
Firstly, COMFORT HIM was a finalist in the Super Short Film category. The same week that it also surpassed 11K views on Twitter.
MR CLEAN won Best Horror. That’s award number 8.
And IMPRINT, an old script that I have completely reworked, won Best Short Script. It’s a brutal, dark short film that is my tribute to those horror fans that would chase down the most extreme cuts of the nastiest films and what becomes of one horror fan when he comes into possession of a very unique tape. I decided to put it into festivals, to see if there’s any interest – after two previous attempts at producing it fell through.
That’s excellent news and very much appreciated! Thank you so much to #KIMFF / Kosice International Monthly Film Festival.
Also, I am writing a new feature script. I’m 38 pages into it. More details on that when it’s done. And Darwin and I met and discussed two potential new shorts. More details on that when we know more.
COMFORT HIM made it into the semi-finals of the 2021 Kalaburagi International Film Festival in India. Nice. Many thanks.
And soon I shall have news of two short film projects that Darwin Reina and I are considering. And hopefully in the not too distant future we can announce some details about a new script which has been doing the rounds. And one of these scripts was written with a new plotting / planning process that I’ve been using and it’s really paid off for the short films, to enhance them from a structural and tonal perspective. Let me know if anyone wants to find out more about that?
I’m also playing around with a new Storyboarding app on the iPad and loving the ease of drawing. And the ability to create Animatics from it – it’s called Spielreel. This was just a test to see if I could figure out the interface. But It may or may not be from an upcoming short film…. 😉
It’s been quiet for a while, a few festivals still to go, but we’re very happy that although it didn’t win, COMFORT HIM was a finalist in the Cambio International Film festival. Many thanks!
So that’s 19 selections to date. We’re still waiting on a couple of other festivals that are taking their sweet time with announcing where the film placed. But hopefully there’s some good news soon.
Hopefully soon I can tell you about some other interesting developments…
JellyFEST in LA, selected both COMFORT HIM and MR CLEAN to their 6th season, and has also awarded both films Semi-Finalist placings. Both films were in the same Narrative Short category and at the same festival. Nice! Many thanks. And congrats to the team!
That means that COMFORT HIM has now been selected to it’s 18th and MR CLEAN has now been selected to its 20th film festival! That’s amazing and both films have done far better than our original dreams or expectations!
